Aug 28 New Orleans
This morning you will be met by a local step-on-guide for a half day tour of New
Orleans. Your tour will begin in the French Quarter where your guide will bring
to life the history and architecture of the old Creole city, Jackson Square, St.
Louis Cathedral, and an overall view of the Mississippi River. Continue by the
French Market, the old U.S. Mint and stately mansions of Esplanade Ave. Stop
for a walking tour of historic St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 then drive through City
Park and see the picturesque antique carousel. Drive along Lake Pontchartrain’s
shores and see the levee system that protects both the city of New Orleans and
surrounding areas. Continue through the Uptown district and St. Charles
Avenue’s grand colonial mansions before moving into the Garden District to
show famous (maybe haunted?) historic homes then return to your hotel. The
balance of the day is free.
Aug 29 Oak Alley and Laura Plantation (L)
Today you will travel to Oak Alley, the Grande Dame of the Great River Road,
where you will be greeted by Southern Belles in period dress before touring the
mansion and grounds then join your group for a Cajun Lunch buffet. From here
you will travel a short distance to Laura Plantation, a restored historic Louisiana
Creole Plantation. Formerly known as Duparc Plantation, it is significant for its
early 19th-century Créole-style raised big house and several surviving
outbuildings, including two slave cabins. It is one of only 15 plantation complexes
in Louisiana with this many complete structures. After your tour you will return
to New Orleans.

offering a wealth of information the Visitors Center is also a museum of sorts,
